I didn't get out that week again until Thursday, November 5th. We finished our Old Testament Final and we just had to break free, so we went out into the City. We only had an hour an a half to be out until sunset, and so we decided to go into the area of the city north of the Old City, where the olive wood shops are, and the Garden Tomb.
We just went to the Olive Wood shops for a few minutes, just for Sarah to figure out if she wanted stuff at Omar's or not. Anyway, then we went over to the Garden tomb and just got to be there for a little while, but it was so amazing. I love it there. I like it because there are no shrines or altars or iconography. It's just a beautiful garden, where you can sit and read, no matter your religion. The center does advise us not to take our copies of the Book of Mormon there, though. Only the Bible. Anyway, here are some pictures!
The Tomb :)
This is the side where Christ would've laid. There is an extra part cut out where his feet would've gone, indicating that the person who this tomb was originally cut for, was not the person that laid here, because they wouldn't have needed to cut out an extra part for their feet if they had known the person who was going to be laid here.
The other reason I love this garden is because the focus is that Christ has Risen. The tour guides and volunteers here always say that, that the important part is not that He could have laid here, but that He is Risen!
This is the sign I blogged about earlier, about how President Hinckley saw this and said, "I do. I do pray for peace in Jerusalem. Every day."
What a wonderful garden. I am so lucky to be able to go there whenever I can!
